Here in Vancouver we have an area called the downtown eastside—more specifically we have a street called east Hastings. This is what it’s like… (click “read more” and press play on the song)

So the other day I was on msn at work and my boy was working on his final project for school and asked me for some ideas. He was trying to conceptualize a series of T-shirts that illustrated how much better 90’s music (and the 90’s in general) is, compared to what’s going on right now.
He mentioned that we have iPods but in the 90’s kids either had to go out and buy CD’s or sit around all day waiting for a song to play on the radio so they could record it. He said we were basically spoiled, I agreed wholeheartedly, and then suggested another angle that would lend itself to t-shirt design: artists from previous decades didn’t necessarily need to be good-looking to make it. Back then it was more about the music—raw talent alone could get you signed. I told him to make some shirts with some talented, ugly-motherf*ckers on them, and he thanked me for the idea.
Looks like I’m not the only one that noticed this trend in music. Enter: ‘Before The Music Dies’ …

This documentary is an in-depth look into the topic my friend and I touched upon in our conversation (see ^above) and is a must-see for any music lover. I just found it today thanks to Niña Mendoza’s blog… thanks Niña!
I’ve been combing through the blogs I used to frequent this morning, seeing what I’ve missed (that’s actually good) during my blog-inactivity. So far not finding much but this Murs jam is pretty decent…. more quality music where this came from asap! I might have to dig something out of my collection though.
Here are the first three tracks to leak off “Fool’s Gold Remixed” presented by Scion. The tape is supposed to become available for download October 14th so check back as we’ll probably have it up for you. Check the Chromeo remix below…
…Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose big, and lose friends—except in life, you have even less control over the outcomes. Basically our brief hiatus from posting was the same concept as a moment of silence for my homie. But he always told me to keep the blog going before, so that’s what we’re going to do…
“He was one of my best friends and he is a HUGE inspiration. Do me a favor, there was a song that we used to bump all the time when we all used to hang out like every day. It was ‘Ludacris - Growin Pains,’ it just showed how much love we had for one another and it’d be great if you could throw it up along with Allan’s.”
