Reblogged from Hypebeast and other streetwear outlets, James Jebbia, founder of Supreme NY recently granted Interview Magazine an interview. He touches perceptively on reselling, artist collaboration, the Japanese market, and the definitive emergence of the brand, quoted below.
“These companies had to sell to a wide range of people, and a lot of them were very young. When people think of skaters, they think of, like, the 12- or 13- or 14-year-old kid. But in New York, it was the 18-to-24-year-old hardcore kid who wasn’t wearing any skate stuff. They’d wear a hat or whatever, but they wouldn’t wear the clothing, because it would fit badly and was bad quality, and skaters want to look good and pick up girls. So we slowly started making our own stuff. It was a time when it was a lot easier to do that kind of thing. It was easier to make a sweatshirt in Brooklyn, or do these hats locally, because you could get nice things made fairly easily.”

Below we have a new model by Gourmet which will be releasing this spring. I personally like these a lot. You can still see the Jordan influences but unlike past Gourmet releases, the inspiration isn’t as blatantly obvious. Click here to view the other two spring 2009 models (which I’m not really feeling), via Hypebeast.
Kim Jones no longer works for Umbro and apparently it’s for the best because the “Helicopter Jacket” she designed (below) is truly impressive. Available right now exclusively via Eliminator.
NOTE: As we move towards encompassing a more wide-variety of content in a more comprehensive way, expect us to share not just our favourite music but our favourite…things in general, from now on as well. Not that we haven’t done that in the past but the key word here is “comprehensive.” Hopefully you can get down with good music, clean designs and interesting news because otherwise you might get a bit lost… (Alternatively, just click one of the categories and see only what you want to see.)

Here’s a look at an upcoming release of Full Cabs that will be available later this fall. They appear to have some frogskin-like accents, which definitely ties into what I said before about Vans trying out some new materials. This will release as part of the core collection so you’ll be sure to have some arch support insoles in this mother.

I just got a little peak at a portion of the Vans Vault collection for the later part of this year, and I was really blown away. As usual, Vans did not disappoint.

I was going to call this The L.A.F.’s Adventures in Asia but that’s not quite the case. Actually just Jenn Channg (click to view her blog) went to Asia.. and because she’s so awesome (ha ha) she’s going to share her experiences with us via the LAF. Thanks Jenn! Sounds like it’s going to be a dope trip. Keep ‘em coming… - Jse
Pronounced Ximending. While the usage of the character 町 (ding) is unusual in a Chinese context, it represents a part of a ward in the Japanese municipality system. Ximending is the most important consumer district in the Western district of Taipei; it is a trendy shopping district for young people. Ximending is now called the 原宿 Harajuku a of Taipei. The local bookstores sell Japanese magazines, books, CD albums and clothing, making it a paradise for ハリズ harizu, or Japanese culture adorers.
Like most metropolitan cities, trying to find a public phone in Taiwan has become quite the adventure. I walked along the streets of Ximending and this is what I found. The local graffiti/ street art crew, City Marx with in house writers like Bobo, Cola and Same, has teamed up with its government to beautify the streets of Taiwan.
(This is just a teaser… more photos coming soon!)
