TIC AND POLI

There’s more to life than the latest in hip hop music and the O.G.’est of sneakers……..I guess. Greenspan just busted a Jerry McGuire and denounced free trade. Read it by clickingggg: right here.

ASHER ROTH (+ MIXTAPE)

October 23rd, 2008

You know the landscape of hip hop is changing when a dude that looks like this receives props from heavy-weights in the industry and graces the cover of XXL at the age of 22. I’m not saying he looks funny, I’m just saying the combination of Eminem opening doors, and people becoming more open-minded naturally over time, is nice to see.

It seems like some members of my generation (born 1980 to 1989?) that listened to(, and became,) underground hip hop have adopted the same lyrical abilities often found within that genre but with a sense for delivery and song-content that allows them to cross over into the mainstream. I’d have to write a lot more to clearly explain my viewpoint on this so that no one would misinterpret it, but I won’t—so just know that I do realize there’s more to it and many other ways to explain all that. The bottom line is, it’s evolution. There’s room for so many styles in hip hop right now and it’s nice to see. Personally, I think this dude sounds like a slowed down, less “poetic” or “abstract,” Robust(, who’s a friend of Qwel from Typical Cats… google them).

BLACK MILK, BIATCH

Black Milk just made his new one, “Tronics” available to be streamed on his myspace. Listen HERE. From what I’ve heard it sounds great… not sure about the Colun Munroe feature though, I skipped that. Below is an older track he produced for Slum Village which I always thought was fresh.

EMINEM / KANYE DOWNLOAD

October 23rd, 2008

The links have been updated so you can download and stream these now… (thanks Oren) Since the zshare links we had up weren’t working for me, this is the first time I’ve heard ‘heartless’ and I don’t know how much I like it. I guess people aren’t ready for it just like some people weren’t ready for The Love Below. My first impression is the song is alright and it’s refreshing to hear something different, but it’s nothing special. That’s after only one listen though, and it’s unmastered, so we’ll see…

Hmmm and should I even comment on what kind of a statement Em is trying to make by completely f*cking around on his first release in years? I’m pretty sure that as usual, he’s just showing off the fact that he doesn’t give a fuck, shows it, and still gets jocked hard. Can’t really knock that…

A SUITABLE SOTD

October 21st, 2008

Oh sh*t I did not even know this song had a video! One of the best backpacker jams ever for sure! Okay, maybe I just personally like a lot of laid back moody hip hop—it’s at least one of the best jams ever that is at all shoe related though (what else is there? nike head by lexicon…) .. Know about it.

Why is it a fitting song of the day? Check the previous post

OH JEEZ: NIKE AIR FORCE 180 PUMP

October 21st, 2008

Since one of the main purposes of the LAF is to post that which has been lost over time but is worth finding again, it’s only natural we share some O.G. stuff with you. Hence the creation of this new (predominantly sneaker-related) post series that I intend to feature on a bi-weekly or monthly basis. Admittedly, I’ve tried (and failed) to start a few other weekly features in the past but I think this one, ‘Image Captures‘ and the ‘DJ’s We Like‘ series (which i never finished but will continue with some time) are here to stay…

(Originally I was going to use my own random images for this post but found these on Nicekicks.com, so that’s where they’re jacked from)

This time around I’ve chosen Nike’s last of 3 responses to the Reebok Pump line: the Nike Air Force 180 Pump. Continue reading after the jump…
