OH JEEZ: NIKE AIR FORCE 180 PUMP

October 21st, 2008

Since one of the main purposes of the LAF is to post that which has been lost over time but is worth finding again, it’s only natural we share some O.G. stuff with you. Hence the creation of this new (predominantly sneaker-related) post series that I intend to feature on a bi-weekly or monthly basis. Admittedly, I’ve tried (and failed) to start a few other weekly features in the past but I think this one, ‘Image Captures‘ and the ‘DJ’s We Like‘ series (which i never finished but will continue with some time) are here to stay…

(Originally I was going to use my own random images for this post but found these on Nicekicks.com, so that’s where they’re jacked from)

This time around I’ve chosen Nike’s last of 3 responses to the Reebok Pump line: the Nike Air Force 180 Pump. Continue reading after the jump…

DAVID ROBINSON NIKE COMMERCIAL (1991):

These were released as David Robinson’s signature shoe in the late 80’s and early 90’s (along with the Nike Air Pressure (1989) and Nike Air Command Force (1991)) while he dominated as a top centre in the NBA with the San Antonio Spurs. Nike utilized the built-in air pump technology to provide increased ankle support, as the air was actually pumped into that area of the shoe. As far as I could tell when I used to wear them, Reebok’s pumps only “filled” the shoe’s tongue with air. (Sidenote: I kind of have to wonder whether the pump technology—nike’s or reebok’s—actually really did anything. Who cares though right… it looked pretty ill..)

OMG guys i had a pair of these back in 1991,i was working for a footwear company in Hull (UK) called Runnercare (Which has now closed) i was always there when the nike rep came to sell his new products,i tell ya im now 36 but back then was around 18 & to see all the nike’s before anyone else on the street did was amazing!!
the shoes above in the pictures retailed at £99.99 i had the green colour cause mine was the first models where as the one’s above was the slightly later versions they was exactly the same style just differant colour, i got mine for cost price which if your in the industry is £55 the other £45 is profit!!! shops buys shoes for around 55% of the full price so then u can gain a idea of how much they make, anyway these boots was like walking around in sofa’s for two reasons, the first one been they was SUPER SUPER comfortable in fact the most comfortable shoe ive ever worn, & secondly cause they was as big as a sofa they was HUGE things to wear, my only negative against these boots was nike ’s back then wore down SUPER quick & within having mine two months & everyday use just too & from work they started to wear right down on the heals, i was GUTTED when that happened,i used ShoeGoo for a month but its went horribly wrong & the super sexy super fly design of these boots started to look tatty as the glue AKA ShoeGoo went all black coloured on the heals, u know to this day one of my biggest regrets is throwing them!!! ive got a Downhill mountinbike a Norco Team DH (06) totaly over speck’d cost over £4500/$6500 & id swap that bike for a original pair of these boots thats how much i loved them!!!

But nike wont bring them back there just legends left to fade…
Anyone got a pair “LET ME KNOW”
my email is: norco72@yahoo.co.uk
Hope this gives u all some more idea of these boots!!
Regards
Keith
