Wanted: David Motari
March 6th, 2008Disclaimer: The video below depicts extremely cruel treatment of a defenseless animal. A few skeptics and conspiracy theorists believe that this video is a hoax and that no animals were harmed during filming. Whatever the truth may be, David Motari is either a puppy killer or someone with, at the very least, extremely questionable morals, possibly psychological problems, and enough time on his hands to concoct and orchestrate an elaborate hoax.
Watch it (and play the audio) at your own risk.

I would also like to you use this post as an opportunity to address the topic of U.S. soldiers in Iraq and, (U.S.) soldiers in general.
Not all U.S. soldiers are bad people so don’t let this video affect your view of them as a whole. People from all walks of life join the U.S. military and their reasons for doing so vary greatly. Some might be driven to enlist purely by a strong sense of patriotism, and on the opposite end of the spectrum, some who are targeted by recruiters in communities with job shortages might join out of necessity alone. Therefore, not all U.S. soldiers support the politics or beliefs behind the war in Iraq (or any war for that matter) and not all of them sympathize with their leaders.
Whether it’s a case of a soldier that agrees, 100 percent, with everything their president stands for, or someone that completely disagrees with the war they are a part of, once they’ve enlisted (or have been conscripted) they are basically “owned” by the government. All U.S. soldiers then have to follow orders, put their lives in the hands of leaders whose true motives will forever remain uncertain, and subject themselves to harsh conditions and the risk of being killed by an enemy of their country at any time. Hence, I would like to respectfully offer my condolences to all the brave soldiers serving in Iraq, all war veterans, and the thousands of soldiers’ families who have been forced to cope with the untimely deaths of their loved ones.

“they are basically “owned” by the government. All U.S. soldiers then have to follow orders, put their lives in the hands of leaders whose true motives will forever remain uncertain”
Laughable. This individual’s opinion has no teeth, all gums, a total cop-out. US soldiers signed up to serve the interests of a military state and that is exactly what they are doing. If any individual soldier disagrees with the war in Iraq, they are free to go to AWOL.
Okay well… since the over-all main opinion I stated is that not everything is cut and dry when it comes to U.S. soldiers in Iraq (and in general), I’m not too surprised with your reaction. I don’t, however, see how what I wrote was a cop-out.
The passage you [strategically cut out and] quoted seems pretty straight forward to me. We could quibble about what exactly I meant by “‘owned’ by the government” but I think the fact that I put it in quotations illustrates that I didn’t use it in a completely literal sense. Basically, all I was saying in that passage is that no matter how soldiers end up in wars, they’re in the same boat… and it’s a shitty ride. What part of that do you so strongly disagree with?
You’re right that any soldier that disagrees with a war can desert, but only if they’re willing to become fugitives for the rest of their lives. (There are still cases of this though. Some American soldiers in the Phillipine-American war deserted and fought alongside Philippine soldiers, for example) Do you not think some soldiers don’t fully understand what they’re getting into when they enlist? Keep in mind youth are often targeted by recruiters.
I probably didn’t articulate my thoughts and opinions completely accurately here, but it’s close - maybe you just don’t enjoy reading stuff by people who don’t fully embrace that unwritten rule of writing that says one should always take a firm stance, left or right, and then argue it as if there is no other possible right answer.
[edit:] As for the question of why someone would even join the army if they don’t agree with the war, that’s a good point and I pretty much agree with you. I don’t think it happens very often, however when it does I (as per usual) don’t think the issue is black and white. Some factors to keep in mind: lack of career opportunities in certain areas, ignorance, misguidance (matter of opinion), someone enlisting during “peace time” (does that exist?) and then getting sent to a war (over oil?) they never anticipated, etc.
War = Touchy subject
I think throwing that puppy off the cliff is pretty much the 21st century soldier’s equivalent of a Zen koan.
what a fucked up guy…disgraceful
