Kidz In The Hall x Barack Obama

December 22nd, 2007

Continuing with the topic of artists from Chicago, Kidz In The Hall is from there and recently signed with Duck Down Records. These dudes have received some critical acclaim for their previous album and are now set to drop a new one in ‘08, titled ‘The In Crowd.’ In signing with Buckshot’s label, they join the likes of Masta Ace, Blackmoon (obviously) and Phife Dawg of A Tribe Called Quest.

If you’ve heard their old stuff it’s safe to say they’re coming with a new sound this time around, at least on some of the tracks. Arguably, even using the same formula that The Cool Kids have utilized: screwed vocals on the chorus and heavy bass/”slap” on the beat. Watch the teaser video below for their single “Drivin’ Down The Block” and decide whether this observation has any merit… but even if it does, who cares?

In addition to the video above, their unwavering support for Barack Obama is giving them some attention as well. Check out this video of Naledge (one half of the duo, the other half being Double-O) speaking out about Obama and the importance of community awareness: www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJWNW3g6Blo

DJ’s We Like: Mid-West Edition

December 13th, 2007

What’s up with everyone being from Chicago nowadays? They have Kanye, Twista, Do Or Die, Lupe Fiasco… R. Kelly, and - okay, I admit, I can’t really name anyone else. Still, they have their own thing going on - maybe not compared to New York, L.A., and the South, but they definitely have a solid music scene. Even non-mainstream artists like The Cool Kids and Kid Sister get their fair share of shine, so it’s only fair we pay homage to the mid-west’s party rockers. These are the dudes you’d probably be lucky enough to find behind the decks if you were down there getting faded, so don’t act like you don’t appreciate it and download some of their mixes below.

Realistically, if you haven’t heard of Flosstradamus, you’re kind of living under a rock. To be honest, I actually almost didn’t want to post this because everyone has already heard of them. Whatever though, I figured the rest of these people aren’t as well known, so here it is:

Flosstradamus: You’ve probably heard of them, the pic above (with J2K’s “Kid Sister”) is from the cover of Urb, they do mixes for Vice Magazine, what else do you need to know?
Downloads: Vice Records Mix (Original), The 3-Peat Mix.

Million $ Mano: Dude isn’t on the top friends section of Flosstradamus’ myspace page, so I’m assuming Mano makes up the rest of the - let’s just call it dance music, scene down in chi-town.
Downloads: Been There Done That Mixtape: Part 1 & Part 2, and check his myspace out.

Honorable Mentions: (but not actually DJ’s)

He Say, She Say: “Drea and Mano met in 2004 when Drea came to Chicago for school. She played a song for Mano one day and he told her she was making a wrong career move.” The rest is history.
Downloads: Check out their myspace.

Vyle: I don’t know much about him but it looks like I overlooked him for that post I made about dudes that do similar music.

Kid Cudi - That New New

December 9th, 2007

Hailing from Cleveland, Ohio, the latest signee to DJ A-Trak’s label, Fool’s Gold Records, has definitely been making a name for himself lately. His new single, ‘Day ‘N Nite,’ is honestly one of the best new songs I’ve heard in a while, and not surprisingly a lot of people seem to agree. I would have posted it when it leaked like most music blogs did, but - well, most music blogs already did… and I try to keep our content as original as possible. Luckily, I’ve managed to scrounge up some other stuff for y’all, including a remix he did in 2006 before he was signed.

Kid Cudi - Dat New New

Robin Thicke - I Want To Love You Remix Feat. Kid Cudi

Kid Cudi - Freestyle (Justin Timberlake - Lovestoned)

Kid Cudi - Day ‘N Nite

Enjoy.

Rico Uno - Bubble Wobble

December 7th, 2007

The homie Rico of The Freshest Kids and RockersNYC Records has a hot new mix for y’all, don’t sleep!

“It’s based off my set at the LIVE BLOCK PARTY back in September where 2000 people ate food and skated and partied outside on the street.

The mix is fun and familiar and crazy and should remind u of the summer (just like the sun right now).

Hope you enjoy it!”
